Question of the Day:

Coach Wooden took his path to excellence by choosing an aspect of the game and studying it thoroughly. Make a list of issues in your life that need some hard work.  Choose one area and establish a plan to develop excellence.  Who would you contact? What will you read? What will you do?

Question of the Day: 9/29

Out of all the task you do, list three that you enjoy the most and the three that you enjoy the least.  Which of your reponsibilities do you enjoy the least?  Are these expectations from others or duties you have created for yourself?  How can you develop enthusiasm to complete these less-than-enjoyable task, particularly the ones over which you have no control?

Friendship

True friendship is a sustained and intimate relationship where we are prepared to make a sacrifice for our friend, and show tolerance and cooperation

Question of the Day: 10/6

Based on Coach's Definition of friendship, make a list of the people in your life who you would qualify as your friends.  Look at your list of friends.  Who do you trust the most?  How could you go about establishing accountablitity with that person or persons?

Cooperation

is the process of a group working or acting together for their common/mutual benefit, as opposed to working in competition for selfish benefit.

 

Question of the Day 10/9:

 

List all the times where you find yourself in a cooperative group.

Now think where, in your experience, are you working alone and could you benefit from the cooperation of a group.

What steps could you take to develop a group in one of these areas.

 

Loyalty 

giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution.

 

Question of the Day 10/20:

Recount times when you made a commitment to be loyal to someone and it proved costly. Recall one time when you depended on someone to be loyal to you and he or she failed.  Describe the emotions you felt at that time and afterward regarding that incident and that person.

 What areas of your life present the greatest difficutly in gaining and maintaining self-control?  

Describe two or three encounters in which you have seen emotions hinder clear thinking.

Alertness

Question of the Day: 10/31

Do you have passion for learning new skills?  Give an example of a time when you had to learn a skill that did not come easy to you. What steps did you take to be successful. 

Initiative

Cultivate the ability to make decisions and tink alone.  Do not be afraid of failure, but learn from it.

Question of the Day 11/3

When was the last time that you attempted something new and it didn't work out?  How did failure affect you?  Describe an event in your life when fear was present, but you did what you needed to do anyway.

Intentness

"Set a realistic goal.  Concentrate on its achievement by resisting all temptation and being determined and persistent"

Question of the Day 11/5:

How do you deal with people and events that hinder you from accomplishing your main purpose?  Do you need to change the way you react to distractions?  Describe a time when you successfully pushed through distractions and difficulties to reach your goal.

Condition

"Mental-Moral-Physical.  REst, exercise and diet must be considered.  Moderation must be practiced.  Dissipation must be eliminated."

Question of the Day 11/6:

What do you do regularly to condition yourself physically, mentally and morally? or what could you do to condition yourself physically, mentally and morally.  Recall one time when your conditioning in these three areas paid off or lack of conditioning effected the outcome of your success?

Skill

"A knowlege of and the ability to properly and quickly execute the fundamentals.  Be prepared and cover every little detail."

Question of the Day 11/7:

 

Apart from sleeping, list the top five activites in which you spend the most of your time.  

 

Write down which phrase that best describes you:

     A.  People drain me, people energize me or I perfer small groups

     B.  I communicate best with:  spoken words, written words or artisitc expression.

     C.  I like working with: Things or Ideas

     D.  I am most skilled:  Working with my hands, solving problems, selling or teaching

 

 

Compare teh time spent in your top five time consuming activites against the choices above.  Are you spending most of your time that seem to come naturally?

Team Spirit

"A genuine consideration for others.  An eagerness to sacrifice personal interests of glory for the welfare of all "

Question of the Day 11/10:

List the groups to which you belong?  What role do you play in each group?  Do your current roles best utilize your natural talents?  How an you be a better team member?

Poise:

Just being yourself.  Being at ease in any situation.  Never fighting yourself

 Do you usually prepare or wing it?

Do you usually have your emotions under control?

What block in the three foundational layers of the pyramid of success do you have to work on to develope poise?
